BRYN AND THE NOBLE EIGHTFOLD PATH

Written by Julie Starkey.  Illustrated by Bev Frensham.

Julie stood at her gate as the big animal trucks rolled by.  She was bearing witness to the lives of suffering.  Holding the mantra, ‘May all beings be free from suffering’ in one hand, and her grandson Oscar’s drawing of a meditator in the other, Julie began writing.  And so Bryn started, or perhaps continued, his journey on the Noble Eightfold Path.

The story of Bryn and the Noble Eightfold Path, gently and joyfully illustrates to readers that caring deeply about things in the world does not have to be disturbing.  Bryn experiences this deep connection with all things and during his ordinary day, practices a non-judgmental equanimity.

Bryn’s story encourages us to accept and embrace that people like us, can make a difference.

“Julie Starkey’s beautiful and tender book is a treasure of the heart.  Lying beneath the simple story is a reminder of the profound truth of interconnection, and the poignant ache of the heart when we are confronted with the reality of suffering and moved to compassionate response.”
